Model kit STARTER KIT VICTOR SCHOELCHER - COMMANDANT RIVIERE
In the past, the aviso was a small ship in charge of carrying mail. In the 20th century, it was a light ship designed for distant missions, escort, coastal protection and anti-submarine warfare (A.S.M.).
The series of 9 avisos-escort vessels, including the Victor Schœlcher (first vessel to be commissioned) and the Commandant Rivière, was built between 1957 and 1963.
Air-conditioned ships designed for representation and escort in the most varied climates, they could receive a high ranking personality, or a senior officer and his staff, or briefly transport a commando of 80 men. A light helicopter could land on the back.
Their electromagnetic detection equipment was very advanced. They had a 45-day supply of food.
Launched on October 11, 1958 at the Lorient arsenal, and admitted to active service on October 15, 1962, the aviso-escorteur Victor Schœlcher was essentially the "conserve" - the companion - of the Jeanne D'arc during eleven training campaigns for the Naval School.
Launched on the same day and from the same shipyard, Commandant Rivière, as soon as she was admitted to active service on 4 December 1962, joined Polynesia where she took part in the first French nuclear tests in the Pacific within the Alpha Force.

The 1:400 scale is mainly used for model ships (battleships, aircraft carriers, etc.).
A large boat that measures 150m long at full size will be 1 foot 3 inches / 37,5cm in the scaled model (150/400 = 0.375).
