MiG-23BN/27D Flogger
The Mikoyan-Gurevich Mig-27 fighter-bomber with variable geometry wings (Flogger D in NATO code) was developed by the Soviet aviation industry from the structure of the Mig-23 fighter, in order to make it more suitable for effective ground attack and close support missions.
The aerodynamic layout is in fact that of the Mig-23 fighter, from which it differs by the new configuration of the nose.
In order to better fulfill the new role assigned to the aircraft, the on-board avionics have been revised by the installation of a ground target detection, acquisition and aiming radar and the adoption of new electronic countermeasures systems. Offensive armament has been revised with the adoption of a new 30 mm 6-barrel cannon, more powerful than that installed on the Mig-23, and the increase in the load of air-to-surface missiles, bombs and rockets it could carry, which could then exceed 4000 kg.
