Product description : Model Set Spitfire Mk.IX
The British Supermarine Spitfi re fighter is undoubtedly one of the icons of aviation history. This low-wing single-engine aircraft with good armament constituted, in its first versions, with the Hawker Hurricane, the backbone of the Royal Air Force's fighter during the Battle of Britain against the Luftwaffe. It was characterized by its harmonious design, its distinctive elliptical wing and its powerful Rolls-Royce Merlin engine. During the war, to respond to German technological innovations and in particular the formidable Focke Wulf Fw190, the Spitfi re constantly evolved in terms of aerodynamics and armament as well as power and engine type. The perfect example is the Mk.IX version, whose performance allowed it to compete on equal terms with the most advanced German fighters until the end of the conflict.
