The P-51 Mustang is an American fighter aircraft designed by North American Aviation and used in World War II. It was designed in 1940 to meet the Royal Air Force's urgent need for additional fighters.
The P-51 Mustang is able to perform well even at low altitude thanks to its aerodynamic finesse, its Allison V-1710 engine and its low-tech turbocharging system. This limits its use as an air superiority fighter.
