Kasane Teto is not an official Vocaloid, but a character born from a hoax that has become a cult classic. The story begins in 2008, with a fake announcement on the 2ch forum of a "new VOCALOID," which ultimately turns out to be Teto, mascot of the UTAU software. Carried by the dynamic voice of Mayo Oyamano and the collective imagination of Internet users, Teto is quickly adopted for her freshness, humor, and independent personality. She seduces with her originality, her unique voice and her proximity to the Japanese independent music community.
The license: UTAU, history, creators, successes
UTAU is a free speech synthesis software, designed by Ameya/Ayame, which allows everyone to create and use their own voices and virtual characters. Kasane Teto, designed by Sen and equipped with a voicebank enriched over the years, has become the emblematic mascot of the software. Accepted on piapro in 2010, then in the game Project DIVA, Teto saw her universe expand with cult songs ("Fake Diva", "Kasane Territory", etc.) and numerous producers (LamazeP, Death Ohagi, Telmin…). The UTAU phenomenon and Kasane Teto symbolize open source creativity and the evolution of participatory digital music in Japan. Its popularity has never waned since its atypical beginnings.
