Top Gun is an American film released in 1986 directed by Tony Scott and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer. The film stars Tom Cruise, Val Kilmer, Kelly McGillis and Anthony Edwards in the lead roles.

The story of Top Gun follows a group of US Navy fighter pilots, based on the aircraft carrier USS Enterprise, who take part in an elite training program called ""Top Gun"". In particular, the film follows Maverick (Tom Cruise), a talented but reckless pilot, who must overcome his ego and fears to become the best pilot he can be and defeat the academy's top pilots, including his rival Iceman (Val Kilmer).

Top Gun was a huge commercial and critical success on its theatrical release, and was hailed for its spectacular action scenes and innovative use of popular music as part of the film's soundtrack. Berlin's song ""Take My Breath Away"", which features in the film, won the Oscar for Best Original Song in 1987.

Over the years, Top Gun has become a cult classic and has been widely recognized as one of the best action films of all time. In 2021, a sequel entitled Top Gun: Maverick was released, with Tom Cruise reprising his role as Maverick. Success was once again on the cards!
