Commissioned in 1940, the Bismarck was the most powerful battleship of the German Kriegsmarine during World War II. Known for her imposing size, heavy armament and speed, she became famous for the Battle of the Denmark Strait where she sank HMS Hood. The Bismarck was later hunted by the Royal Navy and eventually sunk in May 1941. Her story has become a legend and symbolises the exploits and tragedies of naval warfare.
