The Curtiss P-40 Warhawk is an American all-metal, low-wing fighter designed in the late 1930s. It first flew in 1938, and production continued until 1944, with over 15,000 built. This model, despite its performance inferior to that of some enemy fighters, was used in many theaters of operation, notably in North Africa, Asia and the Pacific.
The P-40E version, reproduced in this kit, was equipped with six 12.7 mm Browning machine guns and could carry a 227 kg bomb or an additional fuel tank. It was notably used by the famous "Flying Tigers" and many Allied forces. Its Allison V-1710-39 engine offered good reliability up to an altitude of 3500 m, making it an excellent ground support and tactical defense aircraft.
