In 1944 the US Navy asked the industries to enter a design competition for a 105000 pound patrol boat powered by four radials.
At the end of the war two Blohm und Voss Bv.222 flying boats were captured by US forces.

The 1:144 scale is mainly used for large aircraft models (airliners, bombers, etc.).
A plane in the 1:144 scale is 144 times smaller than the actual aircraft.
For example, if the plane is 60 m long, then the model will measure 1 foot and 5 inches / 41.66 cm in length (6000/144 = 41.66).
