1:400 Foch
Ship model 1:400 Foch
The aircraft carrier Foch was the sister-ship of the Clemenceau. It was the second warship named in honor of Marshal Ferdinand Foch who had declared: "Aeroplanes have no military value".
The Foch, put on hold in February 1957, was built at the Atlantic shipyards of Saint Nazaire and commissioned on July 15th 1963.
The landings were done on the 165 m long oblique runway equipped with 4 stop lines. The 2 steam catapults of 50 m made it possible to make take off planes of 15/20 tons at 110 knots.
The 2 elevators could raise a plane of 15 tons to 8,50 m in 9 seconds. Between 1980 and 1981, it underwent an IPER (Periodic unavailability for maintenance and repair) which equipped it with a system of naval exploitation of tactical information, an inertial power station for recalibration of the platform of the planes before the catapulting, missile bunkers for AM-39 Exocet missiles and the tactical nuclear weapon.
It will thus be able to accommodate 4 or 5 AN-52s and the ASMP6 missile. After a 37-year career in the French Navy, it was sold on 15 November 2000 to the Brazilian Navy, which will finally disarm it in November 2018.
