Old School Crappie Fishing Family Secrets

crappies have numerous different names such as calico crappie, speckled perch, speckled bass, white perch, pole crappies, strawberry bass, and papermouths. When the water temperature starts to warm slightly above more the 50 degrees farenheight it is time to get your crappie live baits and other crappie baits ready for the upcoming spring season of crappie fishing.

Paper Mouths will start their annual migration from their coldwater locations to key new foraging locations. In the north this early spring period will sart right after ice out and actually the temperature of the water will be in the high 30’s. and the month of the year normally will be sometime in March to Early April. In the south, crappies move from deep water when the temperature rises above 40 degrees to coves, and back ends of creeks, about the end of February to the end of march.

During this early spring period calico bass are hungry and ready to feed. Remember though the water is still cold so you need to work your crappie baits slowly. Some very good crappie live baits to use are crappie minnows, shiners, small creek chubs, small gizzard shad, small threadfin shad, and small crayfish. You can catch crappie at this time a year in the southern regions using crappie jigs and plastics or crappie jig, live bait combinations in broad feed creeks, where the water warms faster. Channel bends with stumps will often hold papermouths at this time of year also.

Paper Mouths in large lakes and reservoirs will stage and suspend over deep water 20 to 40 feet deep usually just beyond the first drop of leading into the shallow zones they will be using for their annual spawn. In most reservoirs the paper mouths will normally stage in creek arms so if you are going to be bait fishing for crappie in the early spring period you will want to use large crappie jigs to do your crappie fishing using large crappie minnows and shiners.

In small lakes and ponds pole crappies will suspend over the deepest holes waiting to go to shallow water for the annual spawn. So an ideal way to catch crappie in these waters is by using a slip bobber crappie fishing rig  with a crappie jig head tipped with large crappie minnows and shiners. Also small crayfish will work. You will need to adjust your depth until you start catching crappie. The reason you want to use larger crappie live baits at this time of year is because you need to math the natural forage that the speckled perch is feeding on at this time of year. The crappies are feeding on what was left of the natural bait fish from
the previous year because the bait fish have not spawned yet so there will be no fry at this time of year.

What Is An Electronic Mosquito Repellent And Why Do You Need One?

META: Mosquitoes are pests that are not only irritating but can be harmful to your health as they carry such diseases like Malaria. To get rid of these blood-sucking insects we use various kinds of repellents and the electronic mosquito repellent is one of them.

When you have planned a barbecue for your friends and family or have planned an outdoor trip, mosquitoes can be a great nuisance and can ruin everything. The persistent itching that follows after a mosquito bite can leave you feeling irritable and restless; this is because their bite is like a needle pricking you. These parasites can easily distract you if you are having fun at a party or trip and your attention span will fade quickly as you focus on an attack. Mosquitoes are very unpleasant insects that can not only cause alot of discomfort but can cause some harmful infections.

In most Asian countries and in Africa’s Sahara region mosquitoes can cause some grave health risks such as malaria, dengue, encephalitis, West Nile virus etc. A high mortality rate, especially in children can be gained by infections from these pests. Therefore, it is vital that we use some kind of mosquito repellent to keep these insects away from us, whether it is to protect ourselves from diseases or just to keep safe from the irritability that a mosquito bite can cause.

There are many different kinds of repellents on the market today, but the electronic mosquito repellent will definitely do the job in keeping these nasty pests away. The electronic mosquito repellent releases a solution in the form of vapour into the air within a certain radius and this forms a protection shield in that area which mosquitoes cannot penetrate because they cannot stand the smell of the repellent. In comparison to the stronger smelling repellents on the market that you can spray on your skin, this is a more appropriate option. Besides these only last for a few hours while the electronic repellent will last as long as it is plugged on to a power source.

Another kind of electronic mosquito repellent is one that emits ultrasonic sound waves that are bearable to the human ear but are found repulsive by mosquitoes. These can be worn either around your wrist or set on your table if you are outdoors camping. It is believed that the sound emitted from this repellent is similar to the flapping of a male mosquito’s wings and this sound is repelling to the female mosquito, who scientifically mates only once in her lifetime and therefore keeps far away from the sound. However, it has been reported that this kind of a repellent is not effective and should not be relied on for protection.

You need to choose a spray that will give you the maximum amount of safety and will give good protection against these insects; this is essential. An electronic mosquito repellent comes closest to being the best because you do not have to use sprays and balmy creams on your body which can smell horrible as well as be harsh on your skin. The mosquitoes will stay away from you with the electronic repellent as it works silently in the background. However, one such repellent may not be enough for a very large area because the fumes that it releases works only within a few meters radius.

Right after the pole crappie are done spawning they may be inactive for about 2 weeks regaining their strength from the strenuous spawn. They will still hit crappie baits while bait fishing but they will not chase artificial crappie baits during this time. During this period a good crappie live bait selection such as a crappie minnow, shiner, or a small crayfish might be a better crappie bait to use. You can fish these crappie live baits with a fixed or slip bobber crappie fishing rig. You may want to choose the slip bobber rig because it is easier to adjust your depth until you find the white perch’s right depth and start catching crappie.

The pole crappie will move into the post spawn period after about two weeks. They will start to feed aggressively when they move into the post spawn period because they need build up new energy levels to match there increase activity levels as there metabolism increases. This is a great time to use multiple types of crappie baits to catch crappie.

During the post spawn period females will move to the edges of adjacent flats that are close to deep water, and in deeper lakes or reservoirs males will sometimes linger around shallow cover like brush piles and small weed clumps. A good way to go crappie fishing in these areas is by using crappie jigs tipped with live baits such as crappie minnows, shiners, fathead minnows or small crayfish. In shallow lakes these are primary areas that paper mouth will head too. Many times in shallow lakes using crappie jigs with a plastic grub and tipped with a wax worm will catch crappie.

In deeper lakes and reservoirs speckled bass will head for deep weed lines or a near drop off into deep water. It’s very common to find the suspended at about 5 to 15 feet deep. Many crappie anglers will drift fish or troll over these locations with multiple crappie fishing rigs that have crappie jigs with soft plastic grubs or curly tails set at different depths. Sometimes setting up a crappie pole or two, set up with a live crappie bait such as a crappie minnow, shiner, or a small crayfish works well too.

Once you start catching crappie consistently at a certain depth and crappie bait, change your other crappie poles to the same bait and re-fish the area until you stop catching crappie.
